Israeli. Born 1971 in Holon, Israel. Baritone, pianist and conductor, an accomplished pianist, accompanist and coach, and was a faculty member of the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem and the Tel Aviv University. A recent press release revealed: “Dan began his piano studies at the age of six. He graduated from Thelma Yellin High School, and served in the IDF’s special program for excellent musicians. In 1993, he won first prize in the Francois Shapira Competition as a baritone singer (1993) and performed with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra. He participated for several years in the summer academy courses of IVAI – Israel Vocal Arts Institute. An encore performance of the recently sold-out program at The Jewish Museum and
part of the city-wide festival Bernstein: The Best of all Possible Worlds.
The concert of mostly unknown Bernstein works on Jewish themes, narrated by Jack
Gottlieb, Bernstein’s longtime editor, sheds new light on some of the composer’s
more celebrated pieces. A number cut from West Side Story, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim,
combined with another piece from an abandoned project with lyrics by Betty Comden
and Adolph Green, reveals a surprising transformation as a choral setting in Hebrew.

At: The Hudson Valley Resort and Spa, Kerhonkson, New York
2004 marks the 20th edition of KlezKamp: The Yiddish Folk Arts
Program. And while this is our birthday celebration, KlezKampers are
the ones who receive the gifts.

Our theme, Doyres/Generations, explores how Yiddish culture and
KlezKamp is passed through generations featuring KlezKamp doyres:
Chana Mlotek and son Zalmen, mother/daughter Elaine Hoffman-Watts and

featuring the music of the Spanish & Portuguese communities of Amsterdam, London and
New York. The set contains 50 cantorial works representing centuries of tradition, sung by Cantor Daniel Halfon of the Yad Harav Nissim synagogue in Jerusalem, accompanied by the Or Hadash Choir and a small chamber orchestra conducted by Azi Schwartz. For information on the album see

FINAL TWO CONCERTS OF SUMMERNIGHTS SERIES

The final two concerts of The Jewish Museum’s popular
SummerNights series are on Thursday evenings, July 16 and 23. On July
16, SLAVIC SOUL PARTY! performs virtuosic new brass band music
incorporating diverse influences, and on July 23, Ljova and the
Kontraband offer a mix of Eastern-European melodies, Latin rhythms and
jazz-inspired improvisations. Concerts begin at 7:30 pm. The Jewish
Museum is located at Fifth Avenue at 92nd Street, Manhattan.

Tickets for each concert are $15 for the general public; $12
for students and seniors; and $10 for Jewish Museum members. For

The London Jewish Male Choir (LJMC)

The London Jewish Male Choir (LJMC) is delighted to announce a
pre-Chanukah 2004 concert featuring the LJMC and SHIR – a London based
quartet specializing in Jewish music from Eastern Europe and Israel – at
the Artsdepot, the new theatre at Tally Ho Corner, Finchley on Wednesday
December 1st. 8pm
The concert will feature a mixture of Klezmer, Yiddish, Cantorial, Ladino,
Chassidic and Israeli music performed by two of London’s top Jewish
musical acts. This will be the first major performance conducted by the
LJMC’s new Musical Director Michael Etherton.
The Artsdepot is a state of the art 400 seat theatre and “cultural centre”
which opened in September 2004.

WorldCat.org Now Available

OCLC, the central catalog organization of most major college, university and public libraries, announces
the release of the new WorldCat.org Web site.

This site—and a downloadable WorldCat search box you can easily add to
your Web site—opens the complete WorldCat database to the public, not
just the smaller data subsets utilized by Open WorldCat partner sites such
as Google, Yahoo! Search and others. WorldCat.org builds on the success of
OCLC’s Open WorldCat Program that has elevated the visibility of library
materials on the open Web since the summer of 2003.

The main attraction of the new site is the WorldCat search box. Web users
can now search the entire WorldCat database with the method most familiar
to them: simple keywords. As in Open WorldCat, each linked result leads to
a “Find in a Library” information page.…
