The 2011 International Jewish Music Festival will bring an
unprecedented variety of Jewish music to audiences throughout the
Netherlands. Finalists and winners from our 2010 Jewish Music
Competition will perform in venues big and small spread across the
Netherlands, including in Amsterdam (Paradiso), Den Bosch (De
Toonzaal), Tilburg (Paradox), Utrecht (Merkaz), The Hague (LJG),
Santpoort-Noord (‘t Mosterdzaadje) and Baarn (Pauluskerk).

Cantor specializing in the Portuguese and Spanish traditions. Cantor Halfon is currently recording a set of two compact discs for a co-production of the Jewish Historical Museum of Amsterdam and Beth Hatefutsoth – The Museum of the Jewish Diaspora, Tel Aviv . Loeki Stardust Quartet (ALSQ), is pleased to announce its composition
competition for recorder music. The competition’s goal is to expand
the recorder quartet repertoire with new music for professional recorder
players by composers from the United States and Canada.

Dutch pianist and composer. Born February 19, 1888, Amsterdam. Died May 27, 1949, Laren, the Netherlands. She survived WWII by going into hiding, but also gave clandestine concerts presenting works by Jewish composers. Musicologist Dr. Melissa De Graaf has written a biographical sketch of Rosy Wertheim for the Jewish Music WebCenter, which can be viewed here as a pdf file.

Curated by Deborah Strauss and Jeff Warschauer of the Strauss/Warschauer Duo, this series is dedicated to presenting performances and lectures that reflect the finest current research and creativity in the fields of klezmer music and Yiddish song.
The 2004 series begins on November 22 with THE FROG AND THE WOODCUTTER: Yiddish Story, Song and Klezmer Narrations presented by renowned Yiddish teacher and storyteller Peysakh Fiszman in a special collaboration with the Strauss/Warschauer Duo.

The Judah Magnes Museum, located in Berkeley, California is open to the public. The Library contains Jewish recorded music and sheet music. Among the collections are a large number of 78 recordings. The Museum asks researchers to phone first and make an appointment at 510-549-6939. “Funky Music With a Jewish Twist” is what Mama Doni (aka Doni Zasloff) and her Band
will bring to Tikvat Israel on Sunday, December 13 in a free concert open to the
entire community. Winners of the 2008 “Simcha Award” at the International Jewish
Music Festival in Amsterdam, the Band’s repertoire is a wild mix of musical

Albuquerque’s annual Klezmer music and dance festival celebrates its sixth year over
Presidents’ Day weekend.
The Southwest’s annual celebration
of Klezmer music and dance, KLEZMERQUERQUE 2008, will present a weekend of concerts,
dance parties, classes, and a lunch with music featuring world-renowned klezmer
artists as well as many local artists. The annual event will take place from
February 15-17 (Friday evening through Sunday afternoon) at Albuquerque’s

From “West Side Story” to “Wicked,” the music of the Broadway theatre
will be highlighted at the “Cantors’ Cabaret” concert at 7p.m.,
Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Congregation Rodeph Sholom, 7 W 83rd Street off
Central Park West.
Joining Rodeph Sholom’s Cantor Rebecca Garfein and Cantorial
Intern, Jennifer Strauss-Klein are New York Metro Area Cantors, Claire Franco,
Daniel Singer, Howard Stahl and pianist, Jonathan Faiman. The concert, a
light-hearted tribute to the Broadway theatre will benefit the School of Sacred
Music Scholarship Fund at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and
Project Kehila, Rodeph Sholom’s response to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
To date, Project Kehila has contributed tens of thousands of dollars to the hard-hit
Gulf community.
