The London Jewish Male Choir (LJMC)

The London Jewish Male Choir (LJMC) is delighted to announce a
pre-Chanukah 2004 concert featuring the LJMC and SHIR – a London based
quartet specializing in Jewish music from Eastern Europe and Israel – at
the Artsdepot, the new theatre at Tally Ho Corner, Finchley on Wednesday
December 1st. 8pm
The concert will feature a mixture of Klezmer, Yiddish, Cantorial, Ladino,
Chassidic and Israeli music performed by two of London’s top Jewish
musical acts. This will be the first major performance conducted by the
LJMC’s new Musical Director Michael Etherton.
The Artsdepot is a state of the art 400 seat theatre and “cultural centre”

3 Choirs Come together for 40th Anniversary

Zamir Chorale of Boston announces that there will be a performance with the Jerusalem Academy Choir at Northeastern’s New Fenway Center in a special three-choir concert at
on October 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Artistic Director Joshua Jacobson, who is also Director of Choral Activities at
Northeastern, will conduct sets by NU’s choir and Zamir, followed by a performance
by the Jerusalem Academy Chamber Choir (JACC), considered one of the finest musical
groups in Israel. For the finale, all three choirs will share the stage.
The JACC, comprised of 30 music students and led by Stanley Sperber, is also
celebrating its 40th anniversary. Sperber, founded the Zamir Chorale in 1960 in New York and inspired Jacobson to form the Zamir Chorale of Boston in 1969.…

Julliard Celebrates Milton Babbitt’s 90th Birthday

Long time faculty member, Milton Babbitt’s 90th Birthday will be celebrated with a special concert on March 27 at 8pm at Paul Hall. Last month in New York, the Museum of Jewish Heritage held concerts of some “new” Mendelssohn works… newly rehearsed after some 100 years. This Saturday Feb 21, 2009, the Austin Civic Orchestra will perform “Fantasy and Variations for Two Pianos and Orchestra on the Gypsy March from Weber’s ‘Preziosa’ ” by Felix Mendelssohn. This will be the first time this piece has been heard since 1833. The manuscript piece, never published, and first performed by Ignaz Moscheles and Felix Mendelssohn was set aside and later owned by Anton Rubinstein. After he donated it, it was lost in the archive of the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia for over a hundred years. Southwestern University professor J. Michael Cooper and Jonathan Bellman of the University of Northern Colorado, have painstakingly reconstructed the work.…

Schalom, with members of FDT Klezmorim and guests

Participants and observers will learn about the historical background and
cultural context of this Jewish music and the associated dances. They will
then have the opportunity to gain hands-on (or feet-on!) experience,
choosing either to study the music (style, ornamentation, accompaniment) in
more depth, or to learn some of the dances with experienced dance leader and
drummer Guy Schalom, with live music from members of the band. No previous
knowledge of klezmer music or dance required. Instrumentalists should be
grade 4 equivalent or above.

Amsterdamse Muziekgebouw International Jewish Music Festival 2008

Van 9 tot en met 11 mei 2008 zal in het Amsterdamse Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ een
driedaags concours van Joodse muziek worden gehouden. Kaartverkoop is net van start
gegaan.

Uit 16 landen zijn inmiddels 25 ensembles uit uiteenlopende genres gekozen om deel
te nemen. Zij zullen volks- en popmuziek, klezmer, klassiek en balkanmuziek ten
gehore brengen. De vertegenwoordigde landen zijn Wit-Rusland, Servië, Duitsland,
Frankrijk, België, Italië, Engeland, Israël, Argentinië, Griekenland, Venezuela,
Chili, Mexico, de Verenigde Staten en natuurlijk ook Nederland. De deelnemers aan
het concours strijden niet alleen om prijzengeld, maar ook om een concerttournee en

Women Cantor’s Network 25th Annual Conference

The Women Cantor’s Network will hold its annual conference and 25th year celebration at Congregation
Beth El in Sudbury, MA from Sunday, June 10 – Wednesday, June 13, 2007.
All women cantors, cantorial soloists, service leaders, cantorial
students, educators and women who have a strong interest in synagogue
music are welcomed. This year’s conference theme is “Even Higher: The

Renaissance Italy

The Ensemble Lucidarium, a famous international group of
scholar musicians specialized in the works of the Middle Ages and the
Renaissance, will perform: “La Istoria de Purim,” Jewish music and
poetry from the Italian Renaissance, which was awarded first prize in 2004
by the European Association for Jewish Culture. In the fifteenth and
sixteenth centuries, northern Italy was a meeting place for three
separate Jewish communities: Ashkenazi, Jews coming from
northeastern Europe, Sephardic Jews from the Iberian peninsula, and
Italikim who had been in Italy since the days of the Roman Empire. The
music from this period is characterized by a fertile exchange of
ideas and culture between Jews and gentiles.…

Audiences of the Marin Symphony’s Sunday, February 25 and
Tuesday, February 27 concerts will be treated to two epic works in one
program: Beethoven’s majestic Symphony No. 7 and contemporary composer
Osvaldo Golijov’s The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind, performed by
