As its Chanukkah gift to the community, the Free Synagogue of Flushing will present a special performance of Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus on Friday, December 19, 8:15 PM.

The Bible-based musical masterwork, which tells the story of Chanukkah, is FREE and open to the public.

It will feature celebrated Cantor Steven Pearlston and the distinguished Free Synagogue choir.
Robert Barrows will play the synagogue s historic pipe organ, which dates back to
1927, the only pipe organ at a synagogue in Queens. Jason Covey and Charles Grauman will be featured on trumpet. The program will be narrated by Rabbi Michael Weisser in the synagogue s magnificent sanctuary.

Handel s oratorio tells the story of Judas Maccabaeus, better known as Judah
Maccabee, a fearless leader acclaimed as one of the greatest warriors in

Preparations for the Third International Jewish Music Competition are

Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine: The Phonoarchive of Jewish Folklore

A re-recording project, carried out in 1996-1999,is one of the most important recent finds in Jewish music. The collaborative project between the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, a library of over 14 million items, and the Institute for Information Recording of the NAS of Ukraine, is resulting in first fruits: a 1997 CD, “Treasures of Jewish Culture in Ukraine” with a promised next release of a CD dedicated to the folklore activity of Joel Engel. Mission:

The purpose of the International Association of Jewish Music Collections (IAJMC) is to share information between archives, scholars and performers;  to facilitate communication between owners of collections of Jewish music and libraries and archives; and to aid stakeholders in better discovery, preservation and cataloging of items of interest to Jewish musicology and performance.

Origins:

The initial organization of the nascent IAJMC occurred in 2015. During the ICSM seminar at the Royal College of Music, Exile Estates, Archives and Music Restitution (May 2015) and the International Conference on Jewish Liturgical Music, held in Leeds, UK under the auspices of the 3-year international project ‘Performing the Jewish Archive’ (June 2015),  the crucial role of archives was identified as a means for safeguarding musical estates still in private hands.…

the project “Weinberger Tour” with composition written by Jewish composers on the

IJMF 2017 Amsterdam
Amsterdam is hosting the 20th International Jewish Music Festival (IJMF) from the 4th until 8th of May 2017. IJMF will welcome over 100 musicians from all around the world playing everything from World music to Rap, from Classical to Klezmer.
The competition is for both ensembles and individual musicians, whose music contain Jewish elements.
Besides music, there will be lots of activities for young and old. 
 
On May 8th, the big final will be held in the Wim Sonneveld hall in DeLaMar Theater. Here, winners will be pronounced and prizes will be handed out.

Wasserman-Margolis, Eva

Born on the island of Key West in the Florida Keys, Eva Wasserman-Margolis began to study clarinet at the age of 13. After finishing her Master Degree in Music Performance (1980) at the University of Illinois, she secured, at the age of 23, the position of principal clarinet with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra in Israel. While in Israel, she studied musicology at Bar Ilan University. She has focused on introducing audiences to performances and recordings of music of lesser-known composers in ensembles and solo works. She has recorded for composer Sara Feigin and finished a recording project of rare music for two clarinets and piano with Luigi Magistrelli. She has also been dedicated to raising a new generation of young clarinet players. They now study and perform all over the world.…

presented during the Second International Festival of New Jewish Liturgical Music on
Sunday, June 11 at Ohr Kodesh Congregation in Chevy Chase, Maryland (8300
Meadowbrook Lane). The 7 p.m. concert will feature 15 of these liturgical works, and
the day-long Festival, beginning at 10 a.m., will showcase the remainder of the

In looking for resources in Jewish music, the student should start not only with traditional Library of Congress Subject Headings such as “Jews–music” or “Synagogue music”, but keyword searching. Keyword searching is an important component of any search today and especially on Internet sources. Classical, Jazz and Klezmer clarinetists from all over the world will meet in Safed, Israel, during the week of July 2-9, 2006 for instruction and concerts. .Master classes will be offered in classical and jazz clarinet and in klezmer style for all instruments. Classes will take place at various sites around the city of Sared. Nightly performances from students with a Gala Final Concert, coinciding with the 19th Annual Safed Klezmer Festival July 9-11.
