In six weeks time the International Jewish Music Festival 2012 will
start. Mames Babegenush and Gerard Edery will kick off the event on
Wednesday 10th October with an opening concert in the Portugese
Synagoge. On Thursday and Friday in the Compagnietheater,
more than 100 musicians from 14 countries will try and secure their
place in the finals on Saturday. On Sunday it’s your turn! Take
your pick from six workshops on offer or visit the Jewish cultural
market. A winners’ concert and jam session concludes the
festivities.
The Museum of Jewish Heritage is pleased to announce its concert line up for October
and November of this year. All events will take place at the Museum of Jewish

The legendary Klezmer Conservatory Band (KCB), the band that kick-started the klezmer music revival, will open the first annual Boston Jewish Music Festival (BJMF) with a gala concert celebrating the band’s 30th anniversary at the Berklee Performance Center on March 6, 2010 at 7:30 PM.

fiddler and founder of the Grammy-winning ensemble The Klezmatics,
presents lost musical treasures of the Jewish Ukraine. Drawing on
the fieldwork of Moshe Beregovsky, a Soviet-Jewish
ethnomusicologist, Svigals brings to life, through music and
conversation, tunes recorded on wax cylinders before World War II.
This incredible collection disappeared when Beregovsky was exiled to
Siberia but was recently rediscovered in a dusty archive. Come

Composer Sharon Farber has recently been commissioned by The Israeli Chamber
Orchestra to compose a new work, which will open up the 2007/8 Season. The
piece, entitled Translucent Rocks will be premiered on October 15th, 2007
in Israel.
Ms. Farber is also the recent First Prize Winner of the Cincinnati Camerata
Composition Competition with her piece The Third Mother/Mothers’ Lament.
This A cappella piece was written in memory of slain reporter Daniel Pearl
and premiered by The Los Angeles Master Chorale. Ms. Farber¹s commissioned
works have been performed internationally, and her acclaimed concert piece
for choir, orchestra and ethnic instruments, ASHKINA, (featuring the
renowned musician Omar Faruk Tekbilek), was performed in Boston by the
prestigious MUSICA SACRA choir in March, 2007.

Mordechai Tzvi Russell, who over the past year has gained attention as the new voice

World Premiere Performance of Meira Warshauer Symphony No. 1 Living,
Breathing Earth by Western Piedmont Symphony of North Carolina was a great
success. The two other orchestras who helped commission the work will have first performances in March and April.
The Symphony was commissioned by the Western Piedmont Symphony, the
South Carolina Philharmonic (their Premiere performance will be on March
24 – http://scphilharmonic.com/) and the Dayton Philharmonic (their
Premiere performances will be given on April 26 and 28 – http://www.daytonphilharmonic.com/).
David Berkeley will appear at Club Passim in Cambridge, MA on Feb. 1 at 8pm, Joe’s Pub in New York on Feb. 2 and The Tin Angel in Philadelphia on the 3rd.
Berkeley is an American singer-songwriter, with a voice compared by The New York Times as “lustrous, melancholy voice with shades of Tim Buckley and Nick Drake.” He’s is a Harvard University graduate about whom Hillary Meister wrote in the Atlanta Jewish Times on January 2, 2004, is influenced by synagogue services, and that in particular,” a cantor with a beautiful voice “kept me going to synagogue” while growing up in New Jersey” He has several CDs, including Live from the Fez (2005), After the Wrecking Ships (2004),The Confluence (2002). The Confluence, was reviewed in Billboard magazine and Rollingstone which called him
a “Sixties-esque troubadour with songs to swoon by and a voice sweeter than

The Amsterdam Jewish Music Projects Foundation will be taking part in
the Russian Centennial Celebration for Dmitri Shostakovich with the
programme “Zun mit a regn” (Sun and Rain) that is to be performed at the
Shostakovich Conferences in St. Petersburg on 12 and 13 October. The
programme, which premiered in the Netherlands, includes chamber music and
songs composed by Shostakovich himself and by his friends Mieczyslaw
Weinberg and Veniamin Basner. The central source of inspiration for the
works on the programme is the music of the Jewish people, oppressed in
Russia during the Stalin regime. The works will be performed by singer
Sovali (soprano), violinist Grigory Sedukh, cellist Alexander Oratovski and
pianist Paul Prenen. The performances are supported by the Wilhelmina E.
Jansen Fund.
World Premiere of Meira Warshauer’s Ocean Calling I for Piano Duo
on October 7 Ocean Calling I: Waves and Currents will be given its World Premiere performance on Sunday, October 7 – 3:00 PM at the University of South Carolina Recital Hall as part of the Cornelia Freeman Concert Series.

Israeli-American violinist Yuval Waldman will be giving a solo recital of “Music Forgotten and Remembered” at New York’s Merkin Concert Hall on Tuesday March 29, 2011, at 8 PM. A one-act opera for soprano based on a play by Strindberg.
“Will You Marry Me?” (1989)
A one-act opera for soprano and baritone, written as a companion piece to “The Stonger,” with a libretto by Chalres Kondek, the libretist of Weisgall’s opera “Esther”
“Arioso and Burlesca” (1984)
An exciting work for cello and piano, played by Eric Bartlett, who commissioned the work from Weisgalll for his NYC recital debut.
