David Krakauer announces the release of his project “The Big Picture: A Cinematic Concert” which will be held at the Museum of Jewish Heritage for 8 shows, sharting on January 29th. The work, with music by Elizabeth Swados, writer/director, Cecilia Rubino, the poet, Paula Finn, and designed by Bonnie Roche-Bronfman, commemorates the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire of 1911. The fire was a completely devastating tragedy that resulted in the loss of life of over 146 working Jewish and Italian girls. Klez at the Merc post-Passover!

Hal Aqua and The Lost Tribe return to the Mercury Cafe on Saturday, April 14, 8 pm, playing klezmer music infused with rock, reggae, ska, hip-hop and funk. Julliard Celebrates Milton Babbitt’s 90th Birthday

Long time faculty member, Milton Babbitt’s 90th Birthday will be celebrated with a special concert on March 27 at 8pm at Paul Hall. Julliard faculty, alumni, and students will be joined by Joel Sachs and Continuum for an all Babbitt program. Featured works include Beaten Paths (1988), Melismata (1982), Manifold Music (1995), Concerto piccolino (1999) and More Melismata (2005). Artists will include Thomas Kolor, marimba, violinist William Harvey, organist Gregory D’Agostino and vibaphonist, Thomas Kolor. Christopher Gross, cello and Lucy Shelton, soprano, Cheryl Seltzer and Joel Sachs, pianists. Elaine Hoffman Watts and her daughter, acclaimed vocalist and trumpeter Susan Lankin
Watts in an evening of klezmer music devoted to saying good riddance to all the
mishegas (Yiddish for craziness or insanity ) in our world today. Klezmer is the
celebratory music of Eastern European Jews. Goodnight Mishegas is a line in the
Hoffman family s Goodnight Waltz, composed close to a century ago, with words
recently penned by Susan. The Folklore Project invites people to sing along at the

repertoire that juxtaposes the sacred and secular, the ancient and
contemporary, the traditional and innovative. The concert, entitled
Give Ear to Thy People: Choral Music from the Jewish Tradition, will
feature Paths of Stone and Water, a world premiere written for Musica
Sacra by Osnat Netzer, Israeli composer and pianist. The concert also
includes Aaron Copland’s In the Beginning, which sets the Genesis
creation story, music by Noam Elkies, Yiddish choral music from the
early 20th century, and other selections from the Jewish diaspora.
