My Online Course! Music of the Jewish People
New this fall from Hebrew College:
Online courses from the School of Jewish Music
I’m teaching an online course in Jewish music through Hebrew College of Boston. It’s called “Music of the Jewish People.” You won’t have to be able to read music, although of course, that always helps! However, it’s not actually required for taking this course. It’s all online, and there’s no particular “class time.” You “attend” the course completely online, get your resources and discussion online. The course is a college-level course and is intended for individuals who have completed high school and above.
You have to register and pay for the course registration through the Hebrew College.
After September 4th, there is a late registration fee, so register right away!

Baltimore Hebrew joins Towson University
The Judaic library of Baltimore Hebrew, the “largest array of Judaica in the mid-Atlantic region outside the Library of Congress,” has been moving this summer to Towson University as part of a planned merger. The library hopes to be open on the second floor of the Albert S. Cook Library at Towson University by the end of August. Israeli born Composer Sharon Farber is the Composer in Residence of The Beverly Hills International
Music Festival., which is taking place August 7-17th. One evening will be
dedicated to compositions from top Hollywood Composers. Curated by
Sharon, Voices of Hollywood, Vol. 4, was held the evening of August
12th. Original concert pieces by Film Composers include the World
Premiere of a concert piece by Composer John Debney (The Passion of The
Christ), along with works by the late Michael Kamen (Lethal Weapon), the
late Miklos Rozsa (Ben Hur), Peter Golub (Frozen River), Penka Kouneva (The
Third Nail), Paul Chihara (Death Race 2000), Gernot Wolfgang (The Process)
and Sharon Farber (When Nietzsche Wept).

Mendelssohn’s Elijah SummerSing in Salem MA
You are invited to attended a performance of Felix Mendelsohn’s famous
oratorio, Elijah on Monday, August 24th at 8:00pm. Colman Reaboi will
be singing the title role along with other soloists, chorus and
orchestra.
This is part of The Paul Madore Chorale’s annual SummerSing, and the
audience will be given scores to participate in the chorus, or just to
follow along.
The performance will be held in Salem’s Old Town Hall, 32 Derby Street

ZAMIR CHORALE OF BOSTON TO HOLD AUDITIONS
The Zamir Chorale of Boston, “America’s foremost Jewish choral ensemble,” will hold
auditions for all voice parts on Thursday, September 24 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at
Hebrew College, 160 Herrick Road, Newton Centre. Auditions are by appointment only
and must be scheduled in advance by emailing manager@zamir.org
Candidates must have excellent vocal quality, the ability to sight-read music, and
previous choral experience. In addition to the audition, candidates are required
to attend open rehearsals at Hebrew College on Tuesday, September 8, 15, and 22
from 7:15 to 10:00 p.m. Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays at Hebrew College, from
7:15 to 10:00 p.m., from September through early June.

Rochelle Zucker decided to dedicate a radio show to the memory of the French Yiddish singer, composer and author Jacques Grober.
Grober was born in Paris in 1951 – the son of Holocaust Survivirs from
Poland. From about 1980 until his death in 2006 – when he was just in his
prime, Grober was vital and important force of the Yiddish music scene in
France. He studied Yiidish singing with the Yiddish legend Sarah Gorby. The more
he became involved with Yiddish, the language of his parents and
grandparents, the more he realized how important it was to create
contemporaty songs in Yiddish so that Yiddish could be continue being heard
as a living language.…

and one of Osborne’s at the Roslyn concert.
Both concerts will open with a “The Ballad of Adam and Eve” by Elie Siegmeister
and Langston Hughes, premiered 30 years ago at
