ABOUT METROPOLITAN KLEZMER
Metropolitan Klezmer returns with a ferociously entertaining neo-traditional octet. Named “one of the finest American klezmer bands” by the UK’s Songlines Magazine, with repertoire from rollicking dance to ethereal trance to steamy Yiddish swing and tango, plus genre-defying original grooves, even klezmer cumbia.

Metropolitan Klezmer performs fresh repertoire and beloved favorites irresistible 21st century genre-blenders such as the ever-popular klezmer cumbia — as well as rollicking dance, ethereal trance, and Yiddish swing & tango.
Metropolitan Klezmer, now in the group’s sixteenth year together, includes musicians with backgrounds from Albanian to Zydeco who also perform with the likes of Rufus Wainwright, Opera Omnia, Sounds of Taraab, Hazmat Modine, Los Mas Valientes, Elliott Sharp, Black Rock Coalition Orchestra, Robin Holcomb, Burning Spear, and Isle of Klezbos. An octet in all, the band was formed in 1994 and has released four CDs: “Yiddish for Travelers,” “Mosaic Persuasion,” “Surprising Finds,” and “Traveling Show.” Metropolitan Klezmer’s music has been heard on CNN, Public Radio International, and HBO, as well as in soundscapes from London’s Royal Ballet at Covent Garden to SITI Co. theater productions nationwide. Their recent Florida debut tour included back-to-back full houses for Miami octet concerts, and shows later this year are to include Philadelphia, Washington DC area, and Lincoln Center.
