A Celebration of the Morris Winchevsky School’s 75TH Anniversary

The Morris Winchevsky School celebrates its 75th anniversary with a reunion concert – KLEZ-MORE!! The public and alumni are invited to join the celebration on Sunday, September 21, 7:30 p.m. at the Isabel Bader Theatre, 93 Charles St. W., Toronto.

The evening features some of Toronto’s leading Jewish musicians. The KLEZMER SWINGTET – led by Jonno Lightstone, with Tony Quarrington and Jordan Klapman – swings Yiddish favourites. DAVE WALL AND MARILYN LERNER will include their fresh and stunning original settings of Yiddish poetry to music that blends classical, jazz and Jewish traditions, from their well-received new album, Still Soft-Voiced Heart. Singer, songwriter, musician and entertainer BATSHEVA, who recently returned to Toronto after living in Los Angeles, enchants with her signature repertoire of comedy and Yiddish and Ladino folk music that has delighted audiences across Canada and the U.S. for years.

SHARON HAMPSON of Sharon, Lois & Bram will emcee the concert. The music will include a blend of the familiar and nostalgic along with contemporary sounds, and will be punctuated by recollections of former students and graduates from the 1920s to the present.

For 75 years, the Morris Winchevsky School (MWS) has aimed at fostering a strong sense of Jewish identity and appreciation of ITS rich cultural heritage. Affiliated with the Board of Jewish Education (UJA Federation) and the Congress of Secular Jewish Organizations, the MWS provides progressive, secular Jewish education, which emphasizes Jewishness as a culture, history, tradition and way of life. The extensive and well-developed curriculum is enhanced through family-based education.

KLEZ-MORE!!, featuring The Klezmer Swingtet, Dave Wall and Marilyn Lerner, Batsheva, and M.C. Sharon Hampson, celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Morris Winchevsky School, Sunday, September 21, 7:30 p.m. at the Isabel Bader Theatre, 93 Charles St. W. Tickets are $35, $25 for students and seniors, and include a post-concert reception. Inner Circle tickets at $75 will also be available (a receipt for the charitable portion will be issued).
