Ashkenaz, A Festival of New Yiddish Culture 2004 a festival of music in Toronto Canada this weekend. The Canadian Cabaret, taking place late Saturday night (10pm), Sept. 4th, is again hosted by Theresa Tova (she was very funny and effective last time), who is otherwise involved in a number of key programs and not to be missed.
The Canadian Cabaret brings together a considerable number of Toronto performers, and is usually very well received. A few brand new projects: firstly, new yiddish music by the Toronto Yiddish (and English, and Hebrew) poet Simcha Simchovitch set to music by Lenka Lichtenberg with arrangements by the multi-talented Brian Katz who will be playing with Lenka. Mr. Simchovitch will be there as well. Secondly, another female singer, Isabel Fryszberg, and Lenka are launching a “Barry Sisters” act in another part of the program.
