Two of NYC favorites are coming together for one fabulous show in Beantown. The curse is reversed and time for us New Yawkers get over it and what better place to do it but in the heart of it all. Come get your dreidal on with the sexiest yids around.
“Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad? is a refreshing mix of comedy, music, spoken-word and show-stopping burlesque, told by the gals who learned to smoke at Hebrew School, got drunk at their Bat-Mitzvahs and would rather have more schtuppa than the chupah. These badass chosen chicks boldldare to deconstruct years of tradition, expectations and guilt in a fast-paced vaudeville extravaganza, complete with kick lines, pasties and a rendition of “L’chaim” with a fist in the mouth. This ain’t yo’ mama’s “Fiddler”.
It ain’t your grandma’s either. Young, hip widely acclaimed New York-based Klezmer/Rock band GOLEM (named after the legendary Jewish Frankenstein of Prague) transforms the music of its Jewish grandparents, making it modern, edgy, sexy and brash. GOLEM has infused the World Music scene with a breath of fresh air from Eastern Europe. Their explosive onstage attitude gets Klezmer to rock. Fronted by Annette Ezekiel – bandleader, accordionist and singer – as well as madcap vocalist Aaron Diskin and violin virtuoso Alicia Jo Rabins, the band’s six members create GOLEM’s powerfully vibrant sound.
“Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad” began last year at a sold out event at NYC’s Joe’s Pub celebrating Heeb Magazine’s 3rd issue release. Hosted by comedian/chanteuse The Goddess Perlman and featuring the very best of J-girl talent around, this show has been wowing sold-out crowds in NYC, Philadelphia, DC, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Madison, Detroit, Montreal, Burlington, Provincetown, the Berkshires, the Hamptons and of course the Catskills.
Golem has been working it too. They just released their new CD, “Homesick Songs,” just in time for Chanukah. “Homesick Songs” is a Jewish party in a box. Including updated versions of Yiddish chestnuts and lesser known tunes, all love songs to the towns of Eastern Europe, “Homesick Songs will wake the golem itself. From Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park to the rock
clubs of the Lower East Side, Golem seduces audiences of Klezmer fans and rockers alike.
This is a very special and unique show, even if you are not Jewish, you’ll have a great time watching those crazy yids work it. It’s almost like being be a M.O.T* for the night without the guilt, nagging mother and 10 hour seders. What better way to spend Chanukah than rockin’
your roots with Golem and Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad??
