The spiritual leader and Cantor of Kol Shira (kolshira.com), Cantor Gostein is shaping a new kind of congregational community– one that centers on relationships, cultivates connection, and invites shared leadership. Cantor Gostein builds community around engagement. She. has over 30 years of cantorial leadership in URJ Reform congregations, as a cantorial Soloist and now as Cantor. Working as a song leader, music educator, and composer of Jewish liturgical music, Cantor Gostein Grew up in Mt. Vernon, NY. She worked at Temple Beth Shalom in Austin, TX, at Sha’aray Shalom in Hingham, MA, and at Congregation Beth Israel in Austin, TX. She has held several significant roles within major professional organizations including the Women Cantors’ Network in which she served on the Board, and was a conference chair twice. She belongs to the Guild of Temple Musicians and served as Vice President of Membership. Currently she serves as the Mentoring Project Coordinator. She also has attended the URJ Joint Commission on Worship, Music and Religious Living for many years and represented the GTM there. Cantor Gostein is a member of the American Conference of Cantors. She has a Bachelor in Psychology from Yale University and a Masters in Speech-language Pathology from the University of Texas at Austin. She was also ordained and has a master degree in Jewish Sacred Music from the Academy for Jewish Religion in California. Cantor Gostein is well known as a composer of liturgical music, and is published with Transcontinental Music. Her CD, Each Blessing is crafted around congregational friendly music. She is maried to Michael and has two grown sons.
